Create, Play, and Discover Your Sound.

Composition and improvisation lessons

Instrument Experience Required

Learn to improvise and compose music using the skills you already have! Whether you sing or play an instrument, these lessons are designed to help you make up your own music on the spot, exploring your creativity in a way that feels natural and exciting. You’ll get to experiment with creating your own melodies, playing with chord progressions, and writing original music in styles such as pop, classical, rock, jazz, R&B, or film soundtracks.

Along the way, you’ll learn how to apply relevant music theory concepts to your creative processes in a way that makes sense for you. If you’re mainly interested in developing your improv skills, we can work on practicing different forms of structured improv, as well as more free improvisation with little or no structure. If you’re looking to primarily focus on composing, you’ll learn different ways to notate your compositions, whether that’s using standard notation, chord symbols, lead sheets, or even developing your own shorthand.

These lessons can also include ear training techniques that will help you learn to figure out musical intervals, chords, and melodies by ear. Whether you’re looking to improve your jamming skills, write original songs, or better understand the music you love, these lessons give you the tools to explore and express your musical ideas with confidence.
